Graduated tension is imparted to warp yarns 14 by passing them around rollers 35, 36 and an intervening tapered, felt-covered, rotatable, braked roller 27 cooperating with a pressure roller 31. The warps 14, and separately supplied and tensioned wefts 15, pass a lubricant applying roll 39 on their way to the healds and the warps 14 are guided by a reed 37 prior to the roll 35.
