[Also in Divisions B2, C3 and D1] Novel derivatives of tetrafluoroethylene oligomers having the formula RfR where Rf is the residue of an oligomer (C 2 F 4 ) n , where n is an integer greater than 3, after removal of fluorine therefrom, and R is the residue of at least one alkali metal derivative of an organic compound, in which the alkali metal is attached to oxygen or carbon, after removal of the alkali metal therefrom, are obtained (1) by reacting the oligomers with the appropriate alkali metal derivatives, (2) by reacting the oligomers with the corresponding hydroxy derivatives in the presence of an organic base, or (3) by interconversion from other compounds of the above formula, e.g. by ester hydrolysis or esterification. Some of the compounds have surfaceactive properties and some have oil or waterrepellent properties. Those compounds containing a vinyl group may be polymerized to polymers having oil or water-repellent properties. |
