NEW MATERIAL:A straight-chain fluorine-containing copolymer having repeating units of formula I: (n is 1 or 2) and those of formula II: (m is an integer 1-11) or formula III: (l and p are integers 1-10; l+p=2-11), and a number-average molecular weight of 5,000-300,000, the content of the repeating units of formula I being 40-60 mole %. EXAMPLE:A copolymer of methyl alpha,beta,beta-trifluoroacrylate and propylene. USE:Substrates for ion exchange. PROCESS:A monomer mixture of an ester of alpha,beta,beta-trifluoroacrylic acid and an alpha- olefin is polymerized readily in the absence of oxygen and the presence of a radical polymerization initiator source, e.g. gamma-ray radiation. |
