<p>The workpiece travels through an induction coil (a), which is surrounded by an auxiliary induction coil (b) fed with auxiliary a.c.; and coil (b) is mounted on a slide driven along a slideway via a motor driven spindle, so the movement of coil (b) can be synchronised with the travel of the workpiece. The heating plant is pref. used for the continuous heating of long steel tubes of and travelling longitudinally through coils (a,b); and coil (b) is used to adjust the temp. profile of the heated tube. Coil (b) is pref. a short-circuit winding. Prevents the overheating of the ends of the tube due to distortion of the field inside coil (a). Such overheating may heat the ends of the tube to 1100 degrees C. as compared with the desired temp. of 900 degrees C attained by the rest of the tube.</p> |
