The silencing arrangement for a ships' transverse-jet active rudders is for a layout with a shroud ring (3) around the impeller and divergent ducts (4, 5) either side. This assembly is secured centrally inside a hull tube (1) by three of more pre-loaded metallic-elastic mountings (8). The remaining space between the two is filled with sound-absorbing material (7), pref. sealed-pore synthetic. The ducts have about 5% perforations and are faired (13) into the hull tube. Where the impeller drive penetrates (14) the hull tube the duct (5) is bent inwards to leave a clearance.
