The feed unit is for parts and is partic adaptable to a machine with a forward and backward work movement such as a rivetting machine. A distributor (1) for the parts has an outlet connected with a delivery arrangement (3) working on a time cycle basis. At the delivery end of this arrangement is a part of a multi-part tool such as an anvil (4) and a retainer (5) enables the installation to be fitted to a column of the machine. A drive mechanism is provided which has a coupling half and uses a pneumatic cylinder as source of motive power. This cylinder is controlled by electrical or pneumatic impulses.
