The recording and playback appts. has a stationary head writing on the tape two parallel longitudinal tracks. When the tape is run through, it is set on the other track, while the tape transport is automatically reversed. The writing heads has an erasing head on each side. The appts. has two video heads (12, 13) in the same track. Their gaps (14, 15) are inclined. A switch connects the first head (12), when the tape moves in one direction, and applies during recording an erasing signal to the second head (13) in front of the first one. An adjustment device for the head ensures writing and scanning of the tracks without a safety gap.
