Heat treatment of rotation symmetrical bodies - of metal glass or ceramics, using a gas cushion to support the bodies

Method of heat treating rotation symmetrical bodies comprises (a) conducting the body into a channel-shaped section inside a heat treatment chamber; (b) sweeping the body along on a cushion forming support medium, so that a stable horizontal or inclined layer is formed without it touching the walls of the channel shaped section; (c) maintaining the support cushion for the period of the thermal treatment; (d) heat treating the body by means of a heating or cooling medium arranged inside the heat treatment zone, and (e) removing the body from the channel shaped section. Used for heat treating bodies of metal, ceramic, glass, etc., esp. for sintering such bodies at temps. of 500-650 degrees C. Surface damage at points of contact of supports is avoided, since no such contact occurs.
