A flat electrical cable 20 having a plurality of electrical transmission or signal conductors 21 and ground conductors 23 arranged in a closely-spaced array within a strip of insulative material is connected to an electrical connector 10 by connecting the signal conductor 21 to the terminal ends of electrical contacts within the connector 10, isolating the connector 10 from the ground conductors 23 in the area of the termination, e.g. by forming apertures 14 in the cable 20 to sever the ground conductors 23, and electrically coupling the ground conductors 23 to a single ground conductor 23' with a bridging member 30. This enables the use of insulating-piercing termination devices without the danger of shorting between the closely spaced adjacent conductors. <IMAGE>
