<p>In order, in the treatment of wet sludge produced from a sewage treatment plant, to accelerate the biological conversion process and to achieve the composting of the dewatered solids to give a humus-like soil substance, the wet sludge is first dewatered by a dewatering apparatus (6) to a water content of at most 90%. The dewatered sludge is then circulated in a wet sludge aeration vessel (2) during its aeration and regulated to a temperature in the range of 55 to 85 DEG C by heat exchange in a heat exchanger (38). The sludge thus biologically treated is dewatered in the warm state to a water content in the range from 80 to 50% and then composted in a treatment chamber (5). <IMAGE></p> |
