<p>The viscosity of heavy hydrocarbons in oil sand is substantially reduced by disolving solvent gases, e.g. CO2 and ethane, in the hydrocarbons at the ambient temperature and at pressures above, equal to or slightly less than the liquefaction pressure of the solvent gas. This allows removal of the hydrocarbons from an oil sand deposit under the action of a driving force such as gravity, differential gas pressure, or a displacement medium e.g. water.</p> |
