Water-sol. epoxy resin coating compns. having crack-resistance properties were prepd. by mixing a dimer acid, an aliph. polyamide and a polyamide resin as crosslinking agent. The polyamide resin was obtained from one or more of Me.methacrylate, Et. methacrylate and acrylonitrile of from 5-50% arm. amine or its adduct giving good film forming properties. The coating compns. spray-coated on a steel-sheet and dried 1 week at room temp. gave a surface-smoth and crack-free coating film with good fresh and salt water-resistance properties.
