摘要 1,120,291. Making electrical connections; stamping. UTILUX PTY. Ltd. 27 July, 1965 [29 July, 1964; 8 Dec., 1964], No. 32127/65. Headings B3A and B3Q. [Also in Division F2] A power driven terminal applying machine comprises a normally retracted vertically reciprocable slide having an upper die coacting with a fixed die on the frame of the machine, means operable on actuation of the machine to cause the slide to make one forward and return stroke, a feed pawl spaced outwardly from one side of the dies to feed a terminal strip thereto, means actuating the pawl in timed relation to the slide, and means transmitting movement to actuate a similar pawl in a similar position on the other side of the co-acting dies. The machine is driven by an electric motor 32 which is coupled to a drive shaft 8 via a onerevolution key clutch. The clutch mechanism comprises a spring loaded key 36 in the shaft 8, which key engages radial abutments in a continually rotating ring 40. The key is normally depressed by a projection 43 in an eyeglass member 42, which is restrained against rotation but free to move axially and normally maintained in a rearward position by a spring 47. The eyeglas member is moved forwardly by a bell crank 49, which is actuated by a solenoid 55, which in turn is actuated by a treadle switch (57), Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown). A cam 60 engages one end 62 of a rocker lever 58, which pivots about a rod (59) mounted parallel and adjacent to the bell crank guide rod 45, thereby moving the bell crank laterally the axis of the rod 45 to disengage it from the eyeglass ring 42, Fig. 8 (not shown). The drive shaft 8 is brought to rest by a constantly applied brake 45 and hence is prevented from completing more than one revolution each time the machine is operated. A variable throw crank disc 67 oscillates a shaft 77, which is connected via an arm 85 to a pawl 90. The pawl is mounted in a locating block 148, which is slidable on a pivot pin 89 and has an adjusting screw (92) to ensure alignment of each terminal with the die sets (14), (15), Fig. 5 (not shown). The upper die set is actuated by a ram 11 via a crank 10 on the drive shaft 8 and a connecting rod 13. A second rock shaft 140 is driven by an arm 142 on the rock shaft 77 and arms 143, 144. The degree of rotation of the shaft 140 is varied by moving the upper pivot of the arm 143 in a slot 146. To provide selective feed of the terminals each pawl becomes a pair of pawls, a ratchet pawl 127 and a feed pawl 128. The pawl 127 engages a ratchet wheel 129 to actuate the wheel on its rearward stroke and the feed pawl 127 co-operates with a cam 133 having lobes 135. When a lobe engages a pin 134 on the pawl 128, it is lifted above the level of the terminal strip and hence does not engage it during its forward stroke. The pin is removable to allow for a terminal to be fed at each stroke. A spring-loaded pressure pad 113 is provided beneath each strip of terminals and beneath springs 112 are shafts 118 having eccentric members 119 thereon. The other ends of the shafts extend forwardly of the die set 15 and are provided with levers 120. When a strip of terminals is to be loaded in the machine the lever 120 is rotated so that the eccentric member relieves the spring pressure. The machine is pivotable about an axis 4 which is co-axial with the ram and dies so that the terminal strips may be fed either from the side or the rear. In one application of the machine a terminal is crimped to a conductor and a rigid insulator is placed over the crimped portion. At a second station the insulator is crimped in position, hence, while the terminal is being crimped feeding must not take place to be able to crimp the insulator at the next station. In a second application a ring tongued terminal is fed from one side, crimped, then a quick connect terminal is crimped to a second conductor. The cycle comprises a single feed from the left, no feed from the left during crimping, a single feed from the right, and again no feed during crimping.
