<p>A spring element or unit for a vehicle seat which allows adjustment of the height of the seat and takes care of proper springing over a wide variation of weights of occupant, which includes an operating cylinder defining an enclosed fluid compartment with a floating piston in one end of the compartment and a height adjusting piston at the other end. Valves are provided on both of the pistons and a further weight adjusting piston cooperates with the floating piston to open the floating piston valve and allow movement of that piston when the height adjusting piston extends beyond a chosen distance into the cylinder. The height adjusting piston also engages the floating piston to allow it to return to the end of the cylinder. A spring is carried between the cylinder and a piston rod on the height adjusting piston for urging the height adjusting piston to the end of the cylinder.</p> |
