1448102 Casting foam tube; moulding buildings DOW CHEMICAL CO 1 Nov 1973 [1 Nov 1972] 50791/73 Heading B5A [Also in Division E1] An apparatus for continuously casting a tube 65 of hardenable resin foam, e.g. on to a previously formed tube 65a to form the wall of a structure 10, comprises a depositing head 42 from which foam resin is dispensed on to an element 54 which deflects it radially against restraining means 31; means for advancing the depositing head 42; and a rotating mandrel 58 within the restraining means to ensure an even tube wall thickness. A polyurethane tube 65 is deposited in a spiral by a head 42 carried on the end of a boom 13 through which power and resin are supplied from an external source 17. The two components of the foam are mixed within the head 42 by blades 52 rotated by a shaft 50 which also drives the rotating mandrel 58. The foam is delivered through openings 47 and is deflected outwardly by a discoidal element 54 and blades 56 attached to the rotating shaft 50. Cooling fluid or hot gas for curing is supplied to the interior of the tube through an orifice 60 in the mandrel 58 which is coated with material having low adhesion to the foam. An upper endless belt 32 having a heater 35 and a support plate 36 co-operates with two side belts 37, 38 to form the restraining means. The belts are driven and thus propel the head around the structure 10. |
