In the ignition coil for internal combustion engines, both primary (3) and secondary (6) windings are separate and fitted on a rectangular cross-section closed laminated core (1). The core is in two halves locked together by a key (2). The secondary winding has a separate mandrel fitted over an adjacent limb of the core and has an outer casing (10). Both coils are electrically interconnected by a prefolded strip (5) of metal following the surface of the core. Teh secondary winding output is brought out via a short tube (16) attached to a rectangular strip (15) which slots into a bracket (12) integral with the casing.
