The bottle opener is of flat metal comprising a ring (1) open at one point. Two arms (2) are joined to the ring on opposite sides of the opening their sides being bent over so that they are narrower than the ring portion and of U-section. Grooves (3) in the ring grip the bottle cap. Where the opener is of cast metal or plastic the arms can be of round or oval cross-section. The arms are pressed together to grip the cap for unscrewing and at the free end of one there can be a lug (6) formed for the extraction of crown corks.
