In a disc brake for a vehicle, a shim 13 with low friction material (e.g. P.T.F.E.) is detachably interposed between pad assemblies 5, 6 and an abutment surface 10 in a caliper 1 which takes substantially the whole of the drag on the pad assemblies 5, 6 when the brake is applied. Shim 13 may be a metal plate of U-outline and coated with P.T.F.E., and formed with apertured lugs, 18 through which pad supporting removable pins 12 extend. There may be a further shim between pad assemblies 5, 6 and abutment surface 11. Limbs (15, 16) of the shim 13 may be deformed as shim is fitted into position (Figure 3, not shown). <IMAGE> |
