3-Amino-2-hydroxypropoxyphenyl derivs. of formula (I) and their acid-addn. salts are new: (where A is linear 2-4C alkylene or alkenylene; n = 1-3; R is M, F, Cl or Br; R1 is CR2R3R4 and R5 is H, or NR1R5 is 2,2,6, 6-tetramethyl-piperidino, 2,2,5,5-tetramethylpyrrolidino or 4-R6-1-piperazinyl; R2 and R3 are H or 1-4C alkyl; R4 is 1-4C alkyl, 2-5C alkoxyalkyl, 2-5C alkylthioalkyl) or a phenyl, phenylalkyl, phenoxyalkyl or phenylthioalkyl gp. opt. ring-substd. by one or two 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, OH, F, Cl and/or Br gps.; R6 is 1-4C alkyl, or phenyl opt. mono-, di- or trisubstd. by 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, F, Cl and/or Br.). (I) are useful as agents for inhibiting stress-induced mobilisation of fatty acids and glucose, and as beta-blockers, antiarrhythmic agents, diuretics and hypotensives.
