The suction head (2) for a carpet cleaner is esp. for cleaning carpets made of natural fibres knotted by hand. The suction head (2) consists of a housing (3) on the underneath side of which is an opening (6). Transverse bars protrude outside the opening (6) and are contained inside a rotary drum (4) which is adjustable in height. The bars may be axial, spiral or oblique, and have an adhesive coating. Between each two bars is a brush strip. The lengthwise edges of the opening (6) in the housing (3) are serrated or toothed.
