PURPOSE:To discharge the unnecessary charges in the area on a photosensitive element other than an image area with the use of a simple construction by operating a discharger during the opened condition of an original holder having a reflective surface. CONSTITUTION:There is arranged in the vicinity of the surface of a photosensitive drum 11 a discharger 13 which is equipped with partitions 38a and 38b and illuminating lamps L1 to L3 within a casing 38. The respective side walls and partitions of the discharger 13 are arranged in accordance with the respective size positions of the transfer paper used from a reference portion A of the drum 11. When an original holder 3 equipped with a magnet 39 is closed after a thin sheet of an original is placed on an original carriage 2, this particular condition is detected by the lead switch 40 of the copier body so that the discharger 13 becomes inoperative. In the case of a thick original O2, the holder 3 is opened at a preset angle so that the light sufficient for removing the charges fails to reach the portion B of the drum 11 other than the image portion. This condition is detected by a switch 40 to operate the discharger 13 so that the lamps L1 to L3 are respectively controlled in accordance with the sized of transfer paper. |
