1516471 Electronic watches; watches combined with other articles HON WAI WONG 20 June 1977 [22 April 1976] 16395/76 Heading G3T [Also in Division B6] A digital electronic watch is mounted in the elongate case of a writing instrument. As described the instrument is a ball point pen with a refill 44' and a button 16 controlling a conventional cam and slot retraction mechanism 46, 48. Free axial passage for the refill is permitted by mounting the watch display 40, which is of LED type, and the circuitry on respective boards 38, 32 at right angles to each other. A pocket clip 14 includes a tongue 15 which must be depressed to touch a contact 22 to energize the display and select the desired display function (time, date, seconds). A second contact 24, which can be connected to the clip by interposing any conductive element, forms a setting selection switch which is used together with the first switch to set the watch. The watch is powered by two button cells 52 arranged transversely in a compartment 54 which can be opened by removal of a cap 68. The cap clips into place and also retains the button 16 and its actuator rod 64. The instrument may be a propelling pencil and the display may be of liquid crystal type. |
