PURPOSE:To couple the optical semiconductor element with the optical fiber with high efficienct, by enabling the fixed position to the stem of semiconductor chip with fine adjustment, through the formation of the small photo detection element for alignment at a suitable location of chip. CONSTITUTION:The photo detection section 2 is formed for each element on the chip 1, and at least two photo detection unit 3 for alignment 10 to 50 mum in diameter, for example, are formed to a suitable location, separately with the photo detection unit 2, and the semiconductor element constituting the photo detection unit 3 can be of the same type of photo diode as the semiconductor element constituting the photo detection unit 2, and it can be made to provide other different type such as suitable performance to receive the alignment light source. Thus, since the position relation with the photo semiconductor chip can accurately and easily be corrected and fixed, the element and the optical fiber can be coupled with high efficiency. |
