PURPOSE:To measure the depth of burying of submarine cable or th like without excavating, and obtain correct data promptly, by controlling a plurality of search coils mounted on a carriage from above the vessel or other remote place. CONSTITUTION:On the straight line of the same height (h) corresponding to the supposed buried depth of a submarine cable 1, search oils 7 provided at spedified interval (x) are mounted on a carriage 8, and a rotary mechanism 10 having the rotating shaft parallel to the running plane of the carriage 8 running on the sea bottom 2 is connected to a remote angle control device 12 aboard an investigation vessel by means of a control cable 6. The rotor of the device 12 is turned by a handle 13 away from the reference position, and the coils 7 linked to the mechanism 10 are rotated at an arbitrary angle with respect to the running plane 8a to maximize the voltage induced in the magnetic field due to line current of cable 1. The buried depth is measured by using the angle theta of each coil 7 with respect to the reference line and coil-to-coil interval (x). |
