Contrast of patterns moulded in shallow relief (=2mm) on the surface of a tyre sidewall is enhanced by moulding patterns in ribbed plane or curved relief with smooth surfaces (Ra 0.8, pref. 0.5 mu to BS1134 Pt. 1 (1972)) which contrast with background type faces having a matt surface, i.e. a surface finish with a rugosity level Ra of 5 mu. Surface finish contrast makes the moulded patterns relatively legible and distinct without requiring the mould relief to be deep enough to cause significant local stiffening or loss of crack resistance. The enhanced surface area assist heat dissipation from the sidewall.
|
