The transmission system allows information to be exchanged readily between central shared devices connected temporarily to separate devices in a communications link. Transmitters are located at the shared devices. Receivers are located at other shared devices to store or process the information. The transmitters and receivers are connected to one of the conductors in the link. The transmitters contain parallel/serial converters to transfer parallel information into serial information for sending via the conductor. The receivers contain serial/parallel converters to transfer the serial information arriving on the conductor into parallel information.
