The limit switch is for use with a hoist winch, and comprises an adjustable lug (1) mounted at the end of the hoist rope (2) and acting against a component (8), which in turn actuates a switch stopping the hoist motor (6). The switch can be actuated by a lever pivoting at one end on the rope pulley block, a bell-shaped piece being suspended by ropes from the lever. Rope length is adjustable to match the amount of permissible free movement after the motor stops. The hoist rope passes through a hole in the piece concerned.
