Ceramic capacitor adjustment during mfr. - by laser cutting or sanding of one electrode area

The system is for the adjustment of ceramic capacitors esp. those used in quartz controlled clock and watch movements. The system overcomes the problems associated with polishing techniques, such as the development of micro-cracks. The capacitor consists of a ceramic slip (1) carrying one electrode (2) on each large face or a comb like electrode structure. Connection is by soldered leads (7) to a slightly cut-away section of unplated ceramic. Adjustment is carried out by sanding or laser etching etc. of one of the electrode areas or by disconnection of the teeth of one comb at a suitable point along its length.
