The Parent Patent described a lens, made of an elastomer such as silicone rubber, which is implanted into the eye to replace a natural lens, removed by an operation. This has been improved by a circular disc of 5.5-8mm. (6-7mm) outside dia. on the ventral side, and a rectangular bar of 2mm. greater length than the disc and the same width as the lens dia. on the dorsal side. A bead surrounds both the disc and the bar. This simplifies the insertion of the lens in the iris of a patient and provides the patient with the same field of vision as before the operation. The lens combines flexibility with adequate rigidity. |
