A metal powder, consisting of dense spherical particles of metal or metal alloys, is produced by melting a consumable electrode of the material in an electric arc. The consumable electrode is fused in a liquid and atomised in a fine spray. High-melting metals and metal alloys are thus transformed in dense spherical particles of controlled particle size without affecting their purity. The appts. required is simple without requiring a vacuum or an inert gas atmos.
