Spray gas leak testing of hollow objects - using scavenge chamber contg. nozzle and extractor for reduced dispersion of gas

The method is for spray gas testing of hollow objects and uses a spray gas sensitive detector (1) indicating the presence of gas leaking into the hollow interior as a result of spraying the outside of the object. It is an improved method involving essentially less gas being sprayed into the surrounding atmosphere than previous methods. The gas sprayed towards the surface is partly extracted from the region of the spray nozzle (3) by an adjacent suction device. The nozzle and extractor are contained in a scavenge chamber placed on the test object. A bypass device is included to entrain atmospheric arm and this comprises a set of apertures (11) with adjustable disc masks (12).
