The transducer 3 is immersed in a low-compressibility oil 2 filling a sealed container 1 having a wall 4 formed as an electrically conducting diaphragm. Diaphragm 4 forms part of the single- turn secondary winding of a transformer whose primary winding 5 is energised from a charged capacitor 6. The current flowing in diaphragm 4 interacts with its associated magnetic field to deflect the diaphragm, causing a pressure change in the oil. The pressure change is proportional to the square of the magnetic field strength at the side of the diaphragm remote from the oil, where the magnetic field is contained by the diaphragm. This field, i.e. the field between the two windings, is measured by a pick-up coil 8, whose output is processed to produce a signal, proportional to the pressure change in the oil, which is compared at 10 with the output from the transducer 3. <IMAGE>
