A bearing assembly consisting essentially of two bearings arranged between a shaft 14 and a housing 20 is adjusted for preload by positioning a radially deformable washer 12 between a slidably mounted ring 1 of one bearing and an adjusting member 13 which is moved towards this bearing so as to urge the washer axially towards the ring and simultaneously to deform the washer radially until a part of the washer is clamped between the adjusting member and the housing or shaft as the case may be, the corresponding ring of the other bearing being located against axially outward movement while the other rings of the two bearings are located against axially inward movement. <IMAGE> |
