<p>A method of and apparatus for use in effecting crosslinking of a coating of rubber or plastic on an electrical conductor are disclosed. The coated conductor is moved downwardly through a chamber, through which an inactive or electrically negative gas is passed upwardly, and then through a cooling liquid. The gas is circulated through the chamber, which is surrounded by a heating jacket, via a cooling unit, a filter, a blower, and a heater. The hot gas passing through the chamber heats the conductor to effect cross-linking of the coating and carries away moisture and cross-linking residues which are removed from the gas by the filter. The cooling unit facilitates this filtering and convection of the gas through the chamber.</p> |
