<p>NWE MATERIAL:A 3,4-dihydrocarbostyryl derivative of formula I: (R is methyl or halogen; X is O or S; however, R is not methyl group or Cl when X is O). EXAMPLE:A compound of formula II. USE:Agricultural and horticultural fungicides, which have a rapid action and aftereffect for a long duration on blast and sclerotinia, can be applied to leaf and water surfaces, and soil to reduce labor, have a low toxicity to warm-blooded animals and fishes, and scarcely remain in crops. PROCESS:A carbostyryl derivative of formula III is catalytically reduced with H2 in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. raney nickel or reduced copper, in a solvent, e.g. methanol or water, at 0-250 deg.C at normal or higher pressure for 0.5-24 hr, and filtered. The solvent is distilled away from the filtrate to give the compound of formula I.</p> |
