PURPOSE:To provide good initial performance and superior durability to the title catalyst by adding a specific amt. of excess carbon to a component consisting of carbides of Ti, V, Cr, Zr, Nb, etc. optionally mixed with a limited amt. of Cu, Ni, Co or Fe. CONSTITUTION:To a component consisting of one or more kinds of carbides of Ti, V, Cr, Zr, Nb, Mo, Hf, Ta and W optionally mixed with less than 50 vol% of one or more out of Cu, Ni, Co and Fe is added excess carbon in an amt. of 0.4- 20 wt% to the amt. of all components besides the theoretical amt. of carbon in the metal carbides. After further adding an evaporable additive such as NaCl, the mixt. is sintered in an atmosphere of H2 to obtain a metal carbide type porous sintered catalyst. |
