A process for preparing difunctional aliphatic organic compounds of formula X-(CH2)m-Y in which m=6 or 7, X=COOH, or -COOR, Y=-CN, -COOH, -CONH2, -CH2NH2 or -COOR, wherein R is a linear or branched alkyl containing 1-6 carbon atoms, comprises converting a ketone of the formula <IMAGE> in which n=2 or 3 and R1=CN or -COOH to the corresponding hydroperoxide by means of H2O2, catalytically splitting the hydroperoxide by means of a catalyst Fe<++>/Cu<++> to give an unsaturated acid of the formula HOOC-(CH2)n-CH=CH(CH2)2-R1 and catalytically hydrogenating this to the compound HOOC-(CH2)m-R1 When R1 is different from Y, R1 is changed to Y through known methods. |
