A crash barrier comprises a liquid-filled tube, or one or more rows of liquid-filled bags, made of flexible material (e.g. neoprene) with or without an external wrapper or apron. The barrier may be secured to supports (e.g. of plastics or wood), placed against low walls, or merely laid on the ground. The liquid may be water and anti-freeze. The bags may be cylindrical, spherical or other shape. The barrier shown in Fig. 1 comprises a row of bags 1 straddling two rows of support plates 5, 6 mounted in pedestals 7 on either side of a net 8 running the length of the barrier, the net itself being formed in sections linked by vertical rods, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown). In one of many modifications two rows of bags, Fig. 7 (not shown), are secured to back-to-back L shaped supports. Adjacent bags may be connected by nets or ropes. The barrier of Fig. 19 (not shown) comprises a continuous tube divided into communicating sections by constricting rings (n), and into non-communicating groups of sections by seals (m). Such a barrier may be formed on site by seaming or welding sheet material.</p> |
