The joint for two smooth steel tubes (8) is suitable for central heating, water or steam supply etc. It has an inner sleeve (5) which can taper one end, into which the two tube ends are inserted. This fits into a coupling half (3) which is threaded one end (4) and which carries a knurled collar (2) at the other end. The sleeve is locked inside and onto the tubes by an end cap (6) with a washer (7) inside. The cap also has a knurled collar (2) and is internally threaded to fit the threads on the other half (3). The other end has an inturned flange (9) to retain the washer. The interior of the flanged end of the coupling half (3) tapers to clamp the tapered end of the sleeve.
