PURPOSE:To accurately detect an on-coming vehicle by employing infrared rays in detecting the vehicle. CONSTITUTION:There is provided a sensor 2 connected to a controller 3 for controlling the luminous intensity of head lamps 4, for sensing infrared rays A irradiated from the head lamps of an on-coming vehicle. Thus, only the infrared rays A irradiated from the head lamps of the on-coming vehicle are passed through a filter 1 into the sensor 2 to thereby allow the controller 3 to dim the head lamps 4. Since the infrared rays are radially irradiated from the head lamps of the on-coming vehicle, they are caught regardless of the distribution characteristics of luminous intensity of the visible rays of the head lamps so as to accurately detect the on- coming vehicle. It can also prevent erroneous operation of the dimming operation by the provision of the filter 1. |
