The panic bolt assembly has a horizontal elongate operating device consisting of two elongate bodies hinged together along their adjacent edges. Each body is pivoted to the door about a horizontal axis, one of the vertical edges being movable and vertically w.r.t. the door to effect engagement and disengagement of the bolt. Pressure on the hinged edges of the operating device towards the door effects vertical movement of the pivoted edges to disengage the bolt. The hinged connection between the two bodies is pref. shrouded.
