The optical fibres to be butt-connected have their ends stripped of their jackets and each is held captive between three rods (A, B, C) which are tangential to each other and to the fibre along contact generatrices, the said rods forming two terminations which are slipped into the bore (56) of the connecter body, this bore having a diameter (D) less than the diameter (d) of the cylinders circumscribing the three rods of each termination and having a longitudinal guide groove (57) in which that part of the rod (A) which extends radially from the bore may be engaged, which produces the relative angular positioning of the two terminations brought end to end.
