Removing malodorous basic components from gases - by contact with a support carrying an acid and or a salt

The gas is contacted with a material which has been prepared by application onto a porous and heat-stable carrier of >=1 cpd. which is a proton acid and/or >=1 Lewis acid and/or an acid salt, in amt. of 1-50%, calc. on wt. of the carrier. The proton acid is phosphoric acid, borid acid, their mixt. or condensate, vanadic acid, chromic acid, an aryl-sulphonic acid esp. benzene sulphonic acid or terephthalic acid. The Lewis acid is Ni sulphate, V sulphate, Mn phosphate or their mixt. The acid salt comprises the reaction product of the above acids and a normal-shelling basic component such as NH3, methylamine, ethylamine and/or pyridine.
