The purpose of the design is to protect the upper part of the sill against ingress of dirt and against possible freezing of the door bottom seal onto the car body. The section of the sill where the door bottom edge comes to rest is provided with a recess (3) in shape of a trough. The recess consists of a lower inclined part (8) continued by a vertical web (9) and an inclined surface (10) forming a projecting part beyond the recess surface (10). The labyrinth-action of the layout ensures that dirt or water entering through the gap (11) between the bottom edge (12) and car body is retained by a protruding bulge (14) and comes to rest on the surface (8) and is allowed to leave the gap.
