Prim. carrier for tufted carpets - coated on upper side with dye-accepting latex material

Prim. carrier for use in mfr. of tufted carpets, e.g. of woven polypropylene yarn, is coated on the upper side with a dye-accepting latex compsn. in amt. of 50.8-169.6 g/m2. Pref. the latex compsn. contains (A) rubber latex, (B) a polyamide-epichlorhydrin, (C) or Na salt of polymerised alkyl naphthalene sulphonic acid, and (D) a PVC latex. The latex coating is dyed at the same time as the tufted carpet itself, and prevents the primary carried from showing through, allowing a redn. in yarn wt. used for tufting. Fire-retardent properties of the carpet are also improved.
