The exchanges are connected to a central control, and the evaluating device derives, from the dialling signal code, the direction in which the connection is to be built-up, and the type of connection. Outputs of intermediate stores, in which the dialling signal direction code is stored, are connected to address inputs of a programmable read-only-memory and the information on the connection direction and type is read out from the programmable memory locations.
