A continuous process for the preparation of polymers containing hydroperoxide groups from oxidisable polymers in which the melt of the polymer is contacted for a maximum of 20 minutes under a pressure of 1-150 bar and at a temperature of 80-300 DEG C with oxygen or oxygen- containing gases with vigorous mixing, and the polymer containing hydroperoxide groups is isolated after the oxidation by extrusion, and an apparatus for carrying out the process.
