In order after the restoration of an underground tank installation also to be able to check the pipeline (27) between the tank (12) and oil burner (15) for leaks, a flexible, and yet relatively stiff plastic tube is inserted into this pipeline (27), it being possible for the cavity between the plastic tube and the pipeline (27) to be checked by a vacuum gauge unit (17) which also serves to monitor the tank (12). Various types of connection are possible for this purpose, consideration also being given to the special conditions in the case both of a single-walled and of a double-walled tank. Thanks to a circulation line (35), a special oil return pipe is superfluous, so that both the oil suction pipe and the oil return pipe can continue to be used in the installation, whether it be as a part of a double-walled line (26) or, e.g., as a measuring line (21). <IMAGE>
