Skid-resistant tyre suitable for use on icy or wet roads has a circumferential groove cut into its running surface into which an endless coil-spring is placed. This spring is of similar construction as the retaining spring of a simmer gasket or retaining ring. Part of the cross-section of the endless spring protrudes above the profile of the tyre. The material of which the spring is made has, in certain (unspecified) road conditions, a better 'road-holding' than the rubber of the tyre. An endless cable is threaded through the spring adapted to take-up centrifugal forces.
