Biological sewage treatment - by floating drums carrying biogenic mass and revolved by sewage flow in series of cells

A system for the biological purification of municipal sewage and other effluents which respond to a biological treatment, passes the fluid through a series of consecutive chambers in a channel. Each chamber houses, protected against ultraviolet radiation, a floating drum with ribs to support a mat of biogenic matter. The fluid flow rate of 0.1m/sec. keeps the drums revolving without any external energy. The pref. means of supporting the biogenic mass on the drums are perforated and solid ribs, tubes or neeting, made of PVC and nylon, lacquer-coated metal, stainless steel or aluminium. The system requires much less floor space and maintenance labour than trickle filter systems, and needs less power and moving parts than the activated sludge system. There is no upper limit to its capacity.
